Our theme
The theme for Queensland Women's Week 2024 (QWW) is Count Her In. This theme aligns with the UN Women International Women’s Day theme and highlights the critical importance of women’s economic empowerment as central to realising women’s rights and gender equality.
While important progress has been made, women face significant obstacles to achieving equal participation in the economy. Women’s economic security is the overarching priority of the Queensland Women’s Strategy 2022–27 and the Count Her In theme provides the opportunity to build on achievements of the Strategy to date.
All of us now have a role to play in working together as a community to achieve gender equality.
This theme is a call to action to ensure women and girls are counted and acknowledges the fundamental right of every woman and girl to equally participate in all areas of our society including education, the economy and workforce, politics and, importantly, at home.
Themes for past QWWs have included:
- 2023—Empower her voice; secure her future
- 2022—Keep Making Noise.
- 2021—Celebrate our present. Own our future.
- 2020—Celebrating our diverse community of strong women.
- 2019—Invest in women. Invest in the future.
- 2018—Celebrate wellbeing. Everybody wins.
- 2017—Be involved. Lead the way.
- 2016—Good for her. Great for us. When women achieve, Queensland succeeds.
International Women's Day theme
Established by the United Nations (UN) in 1975, International Women's Day (IWD) is a time to reflect on progress made, to call for change, and to celebrate acts of courage and determination by ordinary women who have played an extraordinary role in the history of their countries and communities.
In 2024 UN Women will mark IWD with the theme Count Her In: Invest in Women. Accelerate Progress. Based on the priority theme for the United Nations 68th Commission on the Status of Women, Count Her In will examine the pathways to greater economic inclusion for women and girls everywhere.
